Maranatha Chapel offers English classes to the multicultural representation of our community. Through English as a Second Language (ESL) the needs of the various language groups in the southern Chicagoland area have been met for 16 years. Our volunteer teachers have joined with the second language learner to build a strong language course.
Maranatha Chapel’s English School uses the Ventures Series by Cambridge University Press. Ventures, 2nd Edition is a five-level, standards based integrated skills series for adult students. (Listening, Grammar, Reading and Writing). The five levels, which are Basic through Level Four, are for low-beginning literacy to high- intermediate students.
Our teachers are all volunteers. They have gone through training three times a year to make the students experience at the English school a pleasant one. The volunteers consist of certified teachers, some with master’s degrees and well trained multi-professionals. Most of our teachers have taught in our program for several years and all have received special training in ESL instruction. Their goal is to assist the student in whatever way they can to build a strong language experience.
English Class admissions take place three times a year—Fall, Winter, Spring. You may contact the office at 708-422-4340 to make an appointment for a 25-minute entrance test. The test is used to place students into the appropriate level of the Ventures Series. The test focuses on reading and grammar recognition.
